News CensusAtSchool News Iain Stewart Presents CensusAtSchool Prizes
Dynamic BBC presenter Iain Stewart, Professor of Geosciences Communication, School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Plymouth, presented Netbook prizes to the first CensusAtSchool champion schools on 8 February 2011.
On behalf of the Office for National Statistics, the Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education (RSSCSE) is running the Census 2011 CensusAtSchool Project and the 2011 CensusAtSchool National Competition (www.censusatschool.org.uk) as an awareness raiser for the 2011 UK census on 27 March.
Teachers and pupils travelled from Colwyn Bay, Birmingham, Honiton and Truro to enjoy meeting the RSSCSE Team, the Director of Education from the American Statistical Association and undergraduates. During lunch pupils took part in a statistical quiz that provoked interesting discussions on topics such as who was the first female to become a member of the Statistical Society and the Monty Hall problem.
The presentation ‘Communicating Planet Earth’ by Professor Iain Stewart was exciting and informative with an excellent question and answer session. (Video will be added shortly.) Iain then presented Netbooks to the visiting CensusAtSchool champion schools.

Lucy and Charlotte, two undergraduates in Law and Mathematics respectively, gave a brilliant talk on university life in general, emphasising the need to take part in extra activities to enhance their CVs.
